How Do I Love Thee?
How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints - I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!
-and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
When You Thought I Wasn't Looking
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake just for me,
and I knew that little things are special things.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me good night and I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's OK to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw that you cared,
and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I looked - and wanted to say thanks for all the things
I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.
Smile at each other,
smile at your wife, smile at your husband,
smile at your children, smile at each other
-- it doesn't matter who it is --
and that will help you to grow up
in greater love for each other.
-Mother Teresa
If instead of a gem, or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought
into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as the angels give.
- George MacDonald
Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a
college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to
serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
All you have shall some day be given;
Therefore give now, that the season of giving
may be yours and not your inheritors.
-Kahlil Gibran
That best portion of a good man's life; his little, nameless,
unremembered acts of kindness and love.
-William Wordsworth
You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
-Kahlil Gibran
Time is
Too slow for those who Wait,
Too swift for those who Fear,
Too long for those who Grieve,
Too short for those who Rejoice,
But for those who Love
Time is not.
- Henry Vandyke
Love is doing small things with great love.
-Mother Teresa
